Painted in acrylic on a 48” x 48” canvas. This is the third manifestation of this pattern. Originally I wanted to have the entire work done at the scale of the innermost pentagon has but I’d never have survived. The pattern is truly fractal in that it “creates” larger and larger pentagons.
This was painted in 1993 just before I had access to computers that could generate the image in minutes instead of the 200 plus hours it took me. Now, with large format digital printers I could make wallpaper using this image and the resulting pentagon would actually suck the viewer into its center.
Below is a digital rendering of the pattern with all the pentagons at the same scale.
And, using MandelBulb 3D, here’s a 3-dimensional version:

The tree is outside my house and when the light is right in the winter I’d notice that the form of the branches had a certain erotic potential.
I’d think that even though it was my mind’s preoccupation with certain feminine features, nature did have a marvelous way of using the same simple shapes over and over.
It took a while until I got a usable photo of the tree. And I immersed myself in a selfless search for just the right nude image.
“G-Tree” as a title is fairly dull. The “G” stands for girl. If anyone has a better title please
e-mail it to me immediately (tj — taojoe — com).
